My goodness, how are we nearing the end of May already?

Earlier this week, I had such a wonderful creative shoot & it included the most complicated outfit design to date!

Flowers have always appealed to me on photo shoots, they make the most beautiful backdrop, but an outfit made of flowers… that wasn’t something I had considered until earlier this year.
It was January – The weather was foul and strangely enough, I have invented some of the most exiting creative projects on such days, while sitting cosy indoors, rain lashing against the window and (like many equestrians) dreaming of summer.

The initial concept was a ballerina shoot among the rhododendrons, some of my favourite flowers which bloom at the end of May/early June. I had seen a beautiful dress which I thought would be perfect. but as time passed, the idea changed and evolved, until I discovered I had created what I was sure to be the most complicated outfit design to date.

While maintaining the elegance of the ballerina, creating a dress from flowers which would give the volume of a Tutu.

In Early April, A shoot date was set with Caroline (the model) – 24th May 2023 – Now, to make the dress!

Firstly, I found a short dress which had the correct coloured bodice, as I knew that the top part was to remain visible, then I got to work, stitching individual flowers onto the waistline, building up the volume as I added more and more flowers.

Shoot Day arrived & the weather was just glorious, choosing to wait until the evening for the beautiful golden hour light.

After meeting at the woodland car park, We set off into the forest – Caroline, her two gorgeous horses, my friend Ferne who came to help hold horses and get ears forward and myself.

Unlike on past creative shoots, I don’t have any stories of members of the public watching with confusion as we walked through the woods carrying a mannequin with a flower dress on. As to my surprise, despite it being a stunning evening, we had the woods all to ourselves.

After a 10 minute walk, we reached the location. As soon as Caroline had changed into the dress, the shoot began 🌺

With an abundance of beautiful locations in such a small area to choose from, the images were all so unique, framed by the stunning rhododendron flowers.

I hope you love the final selection as much as I do – This has been a wonderful shoot to prepare for & I look forward to another of it’s kind next month!
