This year, I have been doing a number of creative shoots, featuring clothing from different time periods. This Edwardian shoot theme was inspired by the beautiful painting of Ophelia, a character from Shakespeare’s play – Hamlet. Although written in 1599, the well recognised painting of Ophelia wasn’t produced until 1852 by artist John Everett Millais.

Despite the story behind the image being haunting, Millais has captured it with profound beauty.

For my interpretation of ophelia, I of course was going to incorporate a horse as the saviour/hero, preventing the alternative deathly outcome, instead filling Ophelia’s heart with love once again. the purity and ghostly connotations of a white horse alongside a white dress was the perfect match. With the Edwardian theme, bringing the outfit styling into the 20th Century.

Photographing in water adds a truly magical element to a shoot, incorporating diffused reflections and shimmers of light.
