My love for horses runs deeper than photography.

I’ve been an equestrian photographer for 9 years, but my passion for horses started long before I even picked up a camera.

When I’m not behind the lens, you’ll almost always find me spending time with my boys.

I have three horses – Star, who is now 25 but still full of energy and I have owned since I was 12. Captain, now 6, I bought as a yearling in 2020 and I’m so excited to be exploring new things together on our horsemanship journey. Then there is Pickle, my very cheeky 7 year old Falabella who I have owned since he was 6 months old. Each one is so different, with their own quirks, personalities, and ways of connecting. Just watching them interact teaches me something new every day.

I honestly don’t think you can capture the true connection between a horse and owner unless it’s something you’ve experienced. It’s more than just a visual connection – there’s an emotion, a softness, an unspoken language that you can only understand when you’ve felt it.

That connection is what I strive to capture in every image.

A little more detail about my equestrian journey

I had my first riding lesson when I was 4 & was instantly hooked. My family always found it crazy how despite being such a risk averse child, I have always been desperate to ride horses, even after a nasty accident when I was 11 – which resulted in two operations – as soon as I was able, I was back riding.

When I was 12, I got my gorgeous Star. He truly is the most wonderful boy, who has been there for over half of my life. We used to enjoy endurance until 2017, when he unfortunately had a field injury & damaged his annular ligament. After 8 months, he made the most amazing recovery (even the vets were stunned) and since then, we have both found a passion for dressage (Star particularly loves dressage to music). At 25 years old, he is still out enjoying British Dressage and hacks across the countryside.

Christmas 2018, along came Pickle! One cheeky little chap, but I love him to bits. I actually went to do a photo shoot for the breeders to as a sales advert for him… but I ended up buying him, so that advert was never needed… Pickle has got more energy than I can even believe possible. He absolutely loves showing (as you can see in the video, he is quite the little mover) but I am grateful every day that I don’t have to ride him!

In 2020, I purchased Captain as a yearling. He was the first young horse I had ever owned & all of a sudden I had this sweet, innocent chap, but who was very green and anxious. This is when I started my horsemanship journey with him, working on building his confidence & developing a connection with him. Unfortunately along the way, Captain has had some medical issues that took time to resolve – it has been a rollercoaster ride, but honestly I think it has made our connection stronger. I started the backing process with him last year & have made sure every foundation is solid before moving on to the next step – After the winter off ridden work, I can really start to see him coming into his own this year.

You may also notice 2 other horses in the video. I am very lucky to keep my horses at my parent’s house & as I live just up the hill from them, can watch my boys from my house. The other 2 horses are my mum’s – Mara (a little Connemara) who was previously a brood mare. She has been wonderful for Captain as he has grown up & they share the sweetest relationship.

Then there is Lily (Pickle’s full sister) who my mum bought in 2021 because obviously one Falabella isn’t enough! together they are Piccalilli or often fondly called the Minions.

I truly feel so lucky to have this wonderful little herd & use all I learn about them & horse communication to capture the most beautiful moments for my clients.
